The "Sleeping Beauty” painting was completed in 2011 by artist Cherie L. Smittle featuring a woman sleeping on a chair.
During a trip to Mexico the artist saw a painting that inspired her. Upon her return home she had her husband take photos of her laying in a chair so she could have a realistic view of how the body would look. So, this is kind of a self-portrait. She chose the color blue because it was different from everything else she has seen, and it is one of her favorite colors. Some speculate that after watching the movie Avatar it subliminally had something to do with it. Now, this painting is often referred to as her Avatar painting for various reasons.
